Colony Social Behaviour Tracking System

Their world.
Observed.

Trumouse Pro combines 144-channel RFID identity recognition with automated video analysis to track up to 20 individually identified mice simultaneously, in a 1.2m x 1.2m arena.

What it does for your study

less hands-on time
about 80%
fewer mice
about 45%
lower cost in staff time and mice
about 50%

Estimates for one study comparing wild-type and knockout mice on open field, circadian rhythm, dominance and social behaviour, against running the usual separate tests. Cost counts staff time at US$25 an hour and mice at US$100 each, including housing; equipment and tags are not included.

Scale up

More mice and longer studies, without more hands

Up to 20 mice in one arena, so wild-type and knockout groups of ten run together in one batch. Recording goes on for weeks to months; what is left by hand is tagging, cleaning, a daily check and reviewing the results.

Automated, no code

From recording to results without writing scripts

Identity, tracks, chases, time in each region and rankings come out on the results page, and everything exports as CSV. For anything else, ask the Agent in plain language and it makes the chart.

Group-level research

Questions a single cage cannot answer

Every mouse is identified while the group lives together, so you can see who ranks first, who stays with whom and how the group changes over weeks.

Know which mouse did what

The overhead camera follows every mouse. 144 RFID readers under the floor read each mouse's implanted tag whenever it passes over one. Trumouse joins the two, so a trajectory keeps its identity through huddles, burrowing and crossed paths.

Real results from one recording

One real recording, straight from the results page. Everything exports as CSV: per-second trajectories, events, regions and environment.

Who ranks firstMouse 4 chased the other four 115 times and ranks first (David's Score 4.89).
Co-presence matrix: the share of time each pair of mice spent together, from 13.1% to 25.4%
Who stays togetherMice 3 and 5 spent 25.4% of the time together; Mice 1 and 5, 13.1%.

Dominance rank without the tube test

Trumouse counts every chase between every pair in the home arena and ranks the group with David's Score, Elo ratings and Landau's linearity index.

Skip the scripts. Ask the Agent.

  • Which mice spent the least time at the drinker last night?
  • Why is Mouse 3's identity confirmation lower than the others?
  • Chart the Elo rating of every mouse across the recording.
  • Plan a two-week hierarchy study for ten males.
The Agent panel answering “Chart the Elo rating of every mouse across the recording.” for a 12-hour recording of five mice: a note that tracking coverage was lower for three of the mice, then a chart of each mouse's Elo rating over the night, with the dark phase shaded
