Table: Glossary

Term Definition
Reader Array The RFID subsystem in the floor platform. Reader coils at equal spacing cover the whole activity area, each forming one reading position, and the signals are output through network ports.
LF Reader Module An in-house 134.2 kHz LF reader, model LF_Module_4, with a planar coil antenna.
Block A rectangular group of reading positions within the Reader Array. Each block has its own network ports.
Compute Unit An independently powered external commercial computer that runs the data processing software.
Switch An Ethernet switch that connects the Compute Unit and the other subsystems into one local network.
Router The router configured and supplied by Murinova. All devices connected through network ports must be on the same network segment and use this router.
Industrial Camera The monochrome camera that records the activity area.
Console The platform software that runs on the Compute Unit and is used through a web browser to manage experiments, acquire records and review results.
Environmental Sensor A multi-channel sensor that measures air quality, the sound and light environment, and temperature and humidity.
Infrared Light An infrared illuminator for video acquisition.
Top Panel The top panel of the Trumouse Lite, with the integrated White Light, Infrared Light, Environmental Sensor, Light Control Module, Industrial Camera and Exhaust Fan.
White Light The white lighting in the Top Panel of the Trumouse Lite: a full-spectrum light strip with diffuse lighting. It is on during the light phase.
Light Control Module The module in the Top Panel of the Trumouse Lite that switches the White Light and Infrared Light. It connects to the switch through its PoE network port, is controlled over MQTT, and follows the light cycle set in the Console.
Exhaust Fan A fan on the Trumouse Lite top panel that exhausts air to ventilate the enclosure.
Passive Transponder Tag A passive FDX-B tag implanted in an animal. It returns an ID when energized by the LF Reader Module’s 134.2 kHz magnetic field.
Universal Port A standardized, open interface on the arena enclosure wall for mounting functional modules (feeders, water supplies, nest modules, behavioral apparatus, inter-arena connectors, etc.). Defined by a rectangular cutout plus a fixed pattern of M4 fixing holes.
FDX-B An animal identification tag communication method specified in ISO 11784/11785, FDX-B.
